Richard is Head of Cash & Self Service for NatWest Group, which includes the NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland and Ulster Bank brands across the UK. Richard is a member of the NWG Payments Executive Team, responsible for leading one of the largest payments businesses in the UK.
Leading a team of around 800 colleagues in the UK and India, Richard is accountable for the entire cash lifecycle for NWG which includes wholesale cash, ATMs, self-service within branches and banknote issuance in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Richard also leads on cash strategy for the Group and has been heavily involved in work across the industry (eg Cash Action Group) to ensure cash remains sustainable for the long term. NatWest is unique in the UK as the only bank to own and operate its own wholesale cash operations, handling around of a third of all the cash in the UK. NatWest also operates the largest ATM network of any UK bank, with over 5000 devices in supermarkets, bank branches, railway stations and other locations.
Richard, who is based in London, has been with NWG for about 19 years, and has held a number of senior strategy, change and operational roles across the business.
