Murray Barbour
Director of Financial Crime Customer Operations,
Monzo
Murray started his career in banking at the Royal Bank of Scotland Group in Retail, before moving to Fraud Operations as a Financial Crime Investigator. Murray moved on through various leadership roles across fraud prevention, first party fraud and third party fraud in his 10 years in Fraud Operations at RBS. Murray joined Blackcircles.com (the UKs leading online tyre retailer and part of the Michelin Group) in 2007 where he led the Contact Centre Operation across the UK and India. In five years at Blackcircles.com, Murray overhauled the technology being used in the Contact Centre, moving to a full omni channel solution, along with integrating technology that provided deeper insights into customer sentiment and feedback, allowing the business to continue to improve its already market leading NPS scores. In 2022 Murray joined JP Morgan Chase as the Head of Fraud Operations for Chase UK where he initially led a team of around 150 across the UK and Philippines. As the business grew, Murray built out Fraud Operations for the business, including introducing new technology and processes, to cope with the new customer demand the business was experiencing. After growing the team to 350 across 3 sites in Edinburgh, Manila and Cebu City, Murray made the decision to move to Monzo where he has been since September 2024 as Director, Financial Crime Operations. Murray leads a team of around 800 across all disciplines of Financial Crime and Law Enforcement Operations, protecting the bank from Financial Crime threats and engaging with law enforcement through SAR filing and bespoke investigations. Murray holds a Diploma in Management and Leadership from the Chartered Management Institute and a BA Business and Enterprise from Edinburgh Napier University.
