Melissa Shields
As the Director of Payments Strategy & Operations for Starbucks Corporation, Melissa leads a talented team of payment professionals in pursuit of delivering frictionless customer experiences across Starbucks digital and retail transactions. She previously held senior roles as Head of Payments and Executive Director leading subscription operations at Dotdash Meredith (Formerly Meredith Corp (MDP)), a media company best known for brands including People, Real Simple, Better Homes & Gardens, Food & Wine and Allrecipes.com.
As a self-proclaimed eternal student and data interrogator, Melissa has focused on exceeding business targets by rethinking what is considered ‘standard’ industry flows—leading to transformational industry changes in service of subscriptions. Additionally, she has extended her strategic oversight to influence organizational shifts in delivering autonomous customer service tools and streamlined the fulfillment of multiple digital products and platforms.
Having a true passion for payments, Melissa currently serves as Vice Chair on the PaymentsEd executive board, a non-profit focused on merchant education and industry innovation. She is also committed to advancing women and youth initiatives. Having served on United Way’s Women United Investment Committee, she served as advocate for and advised on funding decisions that impact early childhood programs geared towards creating equitable, inclusive care, learning and services for families in her region
